Java SE 8 Programming with JDBC & Networking

Department of Computer Science & Engineering, organized 5 days workshop on “Java SE 8 Programming with JDBC & Networking” from 28th July to 2nd August 2017. The Goal of this workshop is to enhance the skill set of Java among faculties, in order to adjust to the new syllabus of VTU. The VTU syllabus demands faculties to have strong knowledge in core java, java front end with JDBC connectivity and network programming skills.

The workshop began with inauguration by Dr. Suresh L. Principal, Cambridge institute of technology, highlighting the importance of Java, from both industry as well as academic perspective. Dr. D. R. Shashikumar, HOD CSE, Dr.Satyanarayan Reddy, HOD ISE, Prof. Nagaraj were also uncovered the goal of the workshop. Mr. Janardhan Singh K and Mrs. Jayanthi, Dept. of CSE were the resource persons for the 5 days.

First days of the workshop was mainly on basics core java covering encapsulation & sub-classing. The day continued with installation procedures of JDK and Netbeans IDE. The second day continued with Overriding Methods, Polymorphism, Static Classes, Abstract, Nested Classes & Interfaces with hands-on sessions. The Third day focused on front-end design component of Java, i.e., AWT, Java Swings, Event handling, Generics & Collections with hands-on. Fourth day had discussion on Database with JDBC, Exception & assertions, Threads, Java I/O fundaments. The day continued with discussion on databased Project design and implementation using Java as front-end and SQL as back-end. Day five mainly concentrated on Network programming java with motivation to build network applications.

The last Day (02/08/2017) concluded with project demonstration and valedictory function. Dr. Suresh L. Principal, CITech, was reviewer for the project exhibition and awarded prize for the best project. The participation certificates were given to all the 27 participants and feedback from participants were recorded. All-in-all, the participated faculties were benefited with the skills of java in the database and networking field.

Project – 2017

As part of the academic the 8th Semester Students have to carry out a Project.

The Project Work has been started in 7th Semester Phase by Phase.

The Students were asked to make the batches of Max 4 Students per team. Then the guide is allocated to every team and the problems were given to students by the guide.

This year in Computer Science and Engineering there were 28 batches were framed and project work were successfully completed.

As a regular practice in the department the Project Exhibition was organised to exhibit the project work with demonstration.

There were different domains of Project which caters the needs of Industry, Society and Research as per the NBA requirements.

Some students carried out projects in Industry like DRDO, LRDE, MOOG, NARA, TCS and many more which includes the domain of hardware and software.

Some Projects were catering the needs of Society like Smart Ambulance, Smart Electricity Metering, Smart Traffic, Home Automation using IOT and many more.

Some Research oriented projects on Big Data like Diabetic Prediction, Feedback Analyser. In Image Processing projects like Face Recognition Attendance Monitoring System. Network Based projects like Network Surveillance and many more.
The Projects were assessed by external Jury Dr. Anitha from EPCET and Dr. Ambarish from Vemana IT. They have chosen the best projects under different category as per NBA.

Special Recognition for the Wonderful effort by 4th Semester Computer Science Students for the Project “DIGI NOTES” which provides all sort of study materials related to CBCS scheme subjects. The website is already launched over the web and also available the Mobile Version which can be downloaded from Google Play Store.
The Team comprises of 9 students which was led by Aash Parashar.

Inauguration of Dell EMC Center of Academic Excellence Data Science & Big Data Analytics

Inauguration of DELL EMC Center of Academic Excellence was conducted on 4th November 2016 at 11:00 AM in seminar hall jointly organized by Dept of CSE, ISE and MCA. The session started with the invocation song followed by lamp lightning. Welcoming the guests Mr. Abhijit Sreenivas, Head Industry Interface & External Research & Academics Alliances-India, ANZ & Srilanka and Mr. D. Praveen Jain, Relationship Manager, Academic Initiatives, ICT Academy, Dr. Suresh L Principal by Dean academics Dr. Shashikumar D R.

Guest, Mr. Abhijit Sreenivas spoke about current trends of data science and application of big data analytics followed by honoring the guests with momentum and address by the principal. ICTACT appreciated CITech by handing over certificate to the Principal. HOD of MCA, Dr. Aruna Devi delivered Vote of thanks. Finally, event ended with inaugurating DELL EMC Center of Academic Excellence lab.

FDP on Data Science and Big Data Analytics

A five day FDP for faculties of CSE,ISE and MCA on EMC Data Sciences and Big Data Analytics in collaboration with ICTACT was conducted from 3/10/2016 to 7/10/2016. The program provided training and hands-on session on  the basic and advanced analytic methods and an introduction to big data analytics technology and tools, including MapReduce and Hadoop.

In the inaugural function, Dr.Suresh L, Principal, spoke about the importance of such FDP to update the knowledge, which is essential to survive in IT environment.

Dr. Shashi Kumar D R, HOD  CSE(UG) and Dr.Sathyanarayana Reddy, HOD ISE  were also present in the function.

Then the Trainer Mr. Karthik from ICTACT started the session with brief Introduction on big data analytics and R programming. The program went on for 5 days with both theory and practical sessions. The certification exam is yet to be conducted  and those who cleared the exam are provided with the EMC2   Professional certificates.

Alumni Meet

A reunion provides an excellent opportunity to come together with old classmates and friends as well as expand your professional network to share your wealth of knowledge. Department of CSE/ISE organized an Alumni meet on 18th June 2016 to relive their experiences and reunite with their friends. Prof.Pankaja and Prof. Sapna are the event coordinators. During registration all the Alumni members were requested to fill the registration forms, exit survey and graduation survey forms. The function started with the Welcome address delivered by Prof. Pankaja. During the welcome address Principal Dr.Suresh .L, Dean Academics, Dr.Shashi Kumar and Prof. Gurucharan Singh,Vice President – Corporate Affairs and HR, Department of HRD, Dr.Satyanarayan Reddy were welcomed with a bouquet.

Prof. Gurucharan Singh, addressed the student regarding the placement activities and the process how they are making the student industry ready. He also gave the guidance for the Alumni students. Followed,the speech was given by Principal Dr.Suresh.L, he highlighted about the reqirement of NAAC and NBA process and the necessary for the alumni meet. He also shared about the growth of the college and he mentioned the experience of his alumni meet in his college. He advices them to balance the professional and personal life.

Dr.Shashi Kumar D.R, HoD of CSE department shared the Vision, mission, PEO and PSO of the institution and the CSE department and the importance of accreditation. He  gave a brief description about the responsibilities of Alumnus. Total 30 alumni members attended the meet. In response, few of the alumni shared their experience as well as interesting moments of campus life in Cambridge to the audience. They also gave some suggestion for the improvement of the campus. Vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Sapna.

The alumni members of CSE and ISE department were very happy by meeting their friends and faculty members .Students and faculty members interacted and captured a group photograph with the Chairman Sri.D.K.Mohan .The Chairman, Sri.D.K.Mohan mentioned that he is looking forward for a greater partnership with Alumni in the days to come as we seek to serve the college community well and he stressed on setting up a strong communication channel between the alumni and the organization.

Oracle 11g SQL – Workshop

Oracle – Academic initiative workshop is jointly organized by ORACLE-Cambridge Institute of technology under Oracle WDP program and Conducted by Department of Computer Science and Engineering/Information Science and Engineering dated on 8/1/2015 to 14/1/2015.

This is a part of Oracle-Academic initiative program, which will enrich the students with industrial need competitive skills. Java is one of the courses which mainly focus on Oracle 11g SQL programming. This course is for 40 hours. This course is suitable for pre-final year computer science background students. It is organized by Mr.Janardhan Singh, Associate Prof, Dept of CSE.

The first day session started at 9:00AM by an inaugural function with all dignitaries. Dr.Suresh.L was addressed the gathering with a note on importance of database and SQL. The Trainer Mr.Janardhan Singh started the training session with brief introduction about database and SQL. The training went on for 5 days with both Theory and Practical sessions. Participation certificates were issued to all the 75 students.

NSS Officers training on Entrepreneurship

The Department of CSE/ISE, Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (Govt.Of India) and ICTACT Academy (Govt.Of TN) systematized jointly NSS Officers training on Entrepreneurship on 23/03/2015 to train the NSS officers/EDC faculty members for Entrepreneurship development.

The inaugural function started with all the dignitaries, various heads of department, principal and faculty members. Dr.Suresh.L addressed the gathering with a note on “Such training programs which allows the engineering graduates to become Entrepreneurs.”

Dr.Shashi Kumar focussed on subject “Students becoming job providers rather than job seekers”, which is followed by brief talk about the development of Entrepreneurship skill by Mr.Saravanan.G.

The function concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr.Sathyanarayana Reddy. The session started by the trainer Mr.Nirmal Kumar, with brief introduction about the projects/ business proposal importance. The workshop went on for five days (23/03/2015 to 27/03/2015 ) with training for writing the project/business proposals.

Career Guidance Seminar 2015

The Career Guidance Programme was first of its kind that was held at Cambridge Institute of Technology on 31/03/2015 in the State of Karnataka and the program got funding from Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of   Youth Development (Govt. of India) and ITCACT (Govt. of Tamil Nadu). The Programme was inaugurated in the presence of Mr. Chethan Ram, AMCAD Mysore International, Mr Siva Shankar of NVDIA Graphic Technologies, Mr. Dhanabal Salaikutti of National Instruments, Mr Saravanan G of ICTACT of Tamil Nadu, Cambridge Group of Institutions Chairman Sri D K Mohan and Principal of CiTECH Dr. Suresh L. The Programme started with Welcome Dance by Monica & Athira and Traditional lighting of the Lamp was followed by Citech Presentation. Totally, 1500 students from various colleges participated in this motivational program.

Dr. Suresh.L ,delivered Welcome address with a note on Quality education & Excellent Training which is followed by the talk of Mr. Saravanan Highlighted on achievements of ICTACT, RGNIYD & also told that such programme is being conducted in 12 states he added a galaxy of speakers from industry & academic are here to enlighten the PUC students helping them to choose their care with utmost care.

Mr. Solaikutty Dhanapal, stressed aspiring scientists & Engineers with a note on tremendous opportunities available in industry for good quality students. Give best shot at every competitive examination. Explore all the options of career that are available around you, which is followed by Mr Sivashankar and Mr Dhanabal,with a note “the students to focus on the need of developing right attitude and skill to become eligible for being selected in a good Company of their choice”.

Mr. Chethan Ram, delivered the speech inspiring the students about a choice of various career options that are available to them after PUC. The Presidential address was delivered by chairman Sir. D. K. Mohan. The programme ended with a vote of Thanks by Dr. K S Reddy.

EMC Cloud Infrastructure and Services (EMCCIS)

The course on EMC Cloud Infrastructure and Servicestrains participants about cloud deployment and service models, cloud infrastructure, and the key considerations in migrating to cloud computing. This course is of its own technology training. The training was conducted on 12/01/2015 to 21/01/2015.

In the inaugural function, Dr.Suresh L, Principal, spoke about the importance of such certification courses for students to update the knowledge, which is essential to survive in IT environment.

Sri D K. Mohan, Founder & Chairman, Cambridge Group of Institutions addressed the students and emphasized on current world IT needs and the importance of certification courses which will make them different from others in IT world. Dr. Shashi Kumar D R, HOD CSE(UG), delivered speech on cloud computing and the essentials of it. Vote of thanks is delivered by Dr.Sathyanarayana Reddy, Head of the department, computer science and engineering (PG).

Then the Trainers Mr. Manjunatha S, Asst.professor, Dept of CSE, CITech &Mrs. Bhavana, Asst.professor, Dept of CSE, CITech started the session with brief note on Cloud Infrastructure and Services. The program went on for 7 days with both theory and practical sessions. The certification exam is conducted on 28/01/2015 and those who cleared the exam are provided with the EMC2   Professional certificates.

2-International Conference on Convergent Innovative Technologies- ICCIT 2015

The second International Conference on Convergent Innovative Technologies-ICCIT 2015 was organized by the department of CSE/ISE in association with ISTE. The inaugural ceremony began with an invocation dance by Amrutha , Dept.of CSE. Dr.Shasikumar, HoD of CSE ,Program chair presented a report on ICCIT 2015 followed by the release of conference proceedings by the chief guest Mr.Omkar. The welcome address was rendered by the principal Dr.Suresh.L followed by the presidential address by honorable chairman Shri.D.K.Mohan.

Dr.Bauya, former architect of wipro technologies addressed the gatherings with a note on telecom industries and internet of things. The keynote for the conference was given by the chief guest Dr.Omkar. The delegates presented the papers which was conducted as six parallel sessions on day1 and on day 2 with another six more sessions. The best three papers and the certificates for participants were awarded during the valedictory function.
