The department of Civil Engineering (CV) at Cambridge Institute of technology aims at imparting quality education in students and bring out the best in them. The course is based on the syllabus prescribed by the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. At present the department has an annual intake of 60 students. Presently the department is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU). The department is supported by well experienced and qualified faculties. We are a team of high quality faculty members engaged in quality teaching. In terms of infrastructure, our department is one of the best equipped and is at par with the leading institutes. The department is considered to be one of the top options for CET and COMED-K rank holders.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

The program educational objectives of civil engineering are designed to produce skilled engineers who are ready to contribute effectively to the civil engineering profession & are ready to handle the challenges of the profession.

  1. To apply fundamental technical knowledge & communication skills to find creative solution for technological challenges.
  2. To take up higher education & to engage in research & development in civil engineering.
  3. To practice civil engineering in a responsible, professional & ethical manner & implement eco-friendly sustainable technologies for the benefit of industry & society.
  4. To enrich competence of graduates to implement emerging techniques for societal needs.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES (POs)

  1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: The problems
    • That cannot be solved by straightforward application of knowledge, theories and techniques applicable to the engineering discipline.
    • That may not have a unique solution. For example, a design problem can be solved in many ways and lead to multiple possible solutions.
    • That requires consideration of appropriate constraints/requirements not explicitly given in the problem statement. (like: cost, power requirement, durability, product life, etc.).
    • Which need to be defined (modeled) within appropriate mathematical frame work.

    That often require use of modern computational concepts and tools.

  5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  11. Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
  12. Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES (PSO’s)

  1. PSO1: Analyze and design various technical areas such as Design of RCC Structures, Design of Steel Structures, design of composite structures and pre-stressed concrete structures which are interpreted with experiments.
  2. PSO2: To design and Maintain Infrastructure development which includes, Highways, Railways, Airports, Harbor,Bridges,Dams Tunnel and Docks.
  3. PSO3: To apply the knowledge of Environmental Studies such as Water Supply Engineering, Sanitary and Sewage Engineering and to know the impact of environmental issues
  4. PSO4: To understand and apply the basic concepts of management, business, public policy, quality and leadership, finance, and its importance of professional license for construction projects

INAUGURATION OF ICI STUDENT CHAPTER & TECHNICAL TALK BY EXPERTS ON 7th November 2016

CITECH – Student Chapter of Indian Concrete Institute – Karnataka Bangalore Centre, was inaugurated on 7th November 2016 at Seminar Hall of Cambridge Institute of Technology, K R Puram, Bangalore.

About Indian Concrete Institute (ICI)

The Indian Concrete Institute has professional and student chapters located throughout India. Participation in this chapter can be extremely rewarding in terms of gaining greater technical knowledge and networking with leaders in the concrete community.

Because chapters are distinct and independent legal entities, membership includes both ICI members and non-ICI members and is made up of a diverse blend of architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, educators, material suppliers, equipment suppliers, owners, and students—basically anyone interested in concrete. Many active ICI members initially became involved in ICI through their local chapter.

The program was started by the invocation song rendered by Mr. Madhusudhan of 3rd  semester Civil Engineering, CITECH followed by lighting of lamp by the Chief guest and dignitaries.

The dignitaries present on the dais were Dr. Ashwath, Chairman ICI-KBC, Er. Koushik Hajra ICI Secretary, Prof. Chandra Kishan, IISc, Bangalore, E-Construct Managing Director  Sandeep Pingale, Bangalore, Sri D K Mohan, Chairman, CITECH-Bangalore, and Dr. Suresh L, Pricipal, CITECH-Bangalore presided over the ceremony.

Prof.Chandrika P, Dept of Civil Engineering, welcomed the dignitaries with Inaugural address and briefed about the activities. Later Prof. Swathi K introduced the Chief Guest of ICI and students chapter in particular.

A felicitation ceremony was conducted for our chief guest and Guest of honour in honour of their achievements in their respective fields.

Achievers amongst students were felicitated for their academic and non academic achievements such as toppers of the academic years, Model making competition.

Department Magazine ‘CLIF’ –civil lightens immense future, was released by Dr. Ashwath, Chairman, ICI Bangalore.

Four Technical sessions were held by eminent spokesperson of various fields, Dr. Ashwath  spoke on the importance of the student chapters and its benefits to the students and delivered an inspirational speech on ‘Expectation of the industry from fresh Civil Engineering Graduates. The students were enlightened by the motivational speech.

Dr. Chandra Kishan spoke about the importance of health monitoring of Structures using NDT and semi NDT techniques to ascertain the quality of concrete and structure as a whole. He discussed in detail the types of testing equipments like rebound hammer, ultrasonic pulse velocity method, cover meter, impact echo test, permeability test and half cell potential measurement test.

Er. Koushik Hajra, intrigued us about Value Added Concrete. He also illustrated wonderful constructions in the world scenario and urged them to get educated about the concrete and its applications.

Mr. Sandeep Pingale, gave a fascinating presentation on Iconic High Rise Structures and gave an outlook of use of software’s in industry. The advanced trends in the field of Civil engineering were explicitly brought to light through site examples with photographs which was a boon for the student gathering.The program was concluded with the vote of thanks by Prof. Srividya R.
